Anticipation/Limbo
Anticipation/Limbo
A couple days past the due date: both Daisy and I have hit pause on work, spent the time and effort to nest and prepare (so many tasks!), and remain busy taking care of ourselves, each other, and our every-day-more-amazing toddler. It’s been a whirlwind, and a welcome distraction for us from a world that’s also very much in limbo, and—after much effort—we have become ready. Not tense, but ready.
Watching our eldest grow from an baby into a toddler, and her personality emerge from suggestions layered on the template of normative baby into really being her own person, remains incredible on a daily basis. The typical milestones (chattering, learning how to walk, picking out boogers of mind-blowing size, a movable feast of bodily fluids) are fun and noteworthy, but the real joy has been in the sideways expressions, the rollercoaster and mischievous smiles, seeing her mother’s kind yet firm determination and her father’s mechanical inclination.
There remain a few acute stressors to handle: finding a new nanny after our current one moves on; filling availability in my work schedule; the remaining unknowns of childbirth to come; some unhealthily passive-aggressive neighbors. But by and large, we’re nested, and breathing in readiness.
